Colfer announced the news during a New York Comic Con panel marking 25 years of the franchise. Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson will also executive produce the adaptation.
Disney’s synopsis centers on 13-year-old genius Artemis, who discovers a technologically advanced fairy civilization beneath the human world. His plan to capture a fairy and take its magic is driven by an effort to save his mother and family.
The project adds another fantasy property to Disney’s animation lineup. Colfer’s involvement gives the author a role in shaping how the books’ characters and mythology move into the episodic format.
For longtime readers, the announcement confirms a new screen adaptation; for newcomers, it introduces a world where fantasy creatures and high-tech equipment meet. Disney’s announcement does not provide a premiere date or voice cast, leaving those details for future updates.
