Shanghai Disney Resort Shares New Creative Details and Construction Progress for Spider-Man-Themed Land!

Shanghai, August 16, 2026 – Shanghai Disney Resort today shared new updates on the Spider-Man-themed land coming to Shanghai Disneyland, in parallel with announcements made at the highly anticipated biennial D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event (“D23”). Recognized as Disney’s flagship global fan event, D23 serves as a platform for showcasing major announcements and new developments from across The Walt Disney Company. Bringing together fans, creators, and industry observers from around the world, the event offers a first look at future Disney stories and experiences, making it a fitting stage to share the latest progress on Shanghai Disneyland’s newest themed land.

As Shanghai Disneyland’s ninth themed land and the third major expansion since the park’s opening, the Spider-Man-themed land was first announced at D23 in 2024. Development has continued to move forward steadily over the past two years. Following the completion of ride track installation in June, the first ride vehicles will be placed on the track imminently, officially launching ride vehicle testing and marking a significant milestone to create this exciting new land.

Today, during the Disney Experience Showcase of this year’s D23, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel announced that the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, also known as W.E.B., will make its debut in Shanghai with the opening of Shanghai Disneyland’s newest themed land. Taking inspiration from Marvel heroes like Spider-Man, W.E.B. is a hub for innovation where heroes, inventors, and engineers come together to create and test groundbreaking technologies. Celebrating heroism, creativity, and cutting-edge engineering, W.E.B. Shanghai will bring a Spider-Man adventure to life through immersive experiences in the new Spider-Man-themed land.

Also revealed during the showcase, a new creative rendering offers a closer look at the upcoming themed land. Among its standout details is a giant Spider-Bot – one of the robotic creations developed by Peter Parker and his fellow inventors at W.E.B. – representing the latest experiments underway at W.E.B. Shanghai and hinting at the inventive, high-energy adventures guests can expect.

 Attendees at this global fan event will also get a first look at the mural art program within the land that will be created in collaboration with talented Chinese mural artists. Inspired by Shanghai’s boundless creativity and forward-looking spirit, these vibrant artworks will celebrate Marvel heroes like Spider-Man through a distinctly local lens. Showcasing the talents of Chinese artists on a global stage, the mural offers an early glimpse of W.E.B. Shanghai while reflecting Shanghai Disney Resort’s commitment to creating experiences that celebrate local culture, spark imagination, and foster meaningful connections with guests.

Since its opening, Shanghai Disney Resort has continued to expand and develop in response to strong guest demand and enthusiasm for high-quality travel experiences. In addition to the Spider-Man-themed land, work is also underway to expand Shanghai Disneyland’s iconic Soaring Over the Horizon attraction. Plus, two new themed hotels are also under construction, along with a new residential community for cast members designed to better support them in creating lasting memories for guests.
